MELBOURNE’S LONGEST CAKE 2007
"Melbourne’s Longest Cake" was held for the first time on Sunday 25th March 2007. The event attracted wide public support and media attention, and raised much needed funds for Cerebral Palsy while increasing awareness of CP in the wider community. Deemed an outstanding success, this event will now become an annual major fund raiser for the Cerebral Palsy Support Network.
One hundred metres long, this culinary feat was part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Baked and assembled by chefs at Crown along the Promenade, the cake was decorated by apprentice chefs and cookery students to feature sponsor logos positioned along its length.
Through sponsorship of the cake and sales of cake slices to the public on the day, $58,000 was raised. Proceeds enable the Cerebral Palsy Support Network to continue to provide support and information. A percentage of funds raised will be given to Solve! At Royal Children’s Hospital, towards research into CP.
Next year's event is already being planned, so individuals, families and business sponsors are all invited to participate again in 2008 to ensure the continuing success of Melbourne's Longest Cake.
